Clearly THES journalists, like TV schedulers, have to find little amusements to celebrate the season. But with Ofcom revving up for business and the battle over the BBC's charter in full swing, it would have been more useful if you had pondered the more difficult question of what constitutes good popular television ("Big Brother evicted by academics", THES , December 19/26).
