Parent University returns for the 2022/23 school year

Welcome to Parent University - 网曝门 SchoolsTimes have changed. The issues many kids are facing today are far different from what their parents and loved ones dealt with years ago. 网曝门 Schools is offering support to parents and families through the relaunch of Parent University, providing free educational opportunities.

Several times a month, parents and families will have the opportunity to register online for an event, training or workshop that will take place in-person or virtually. The programming is led by community partners, who are experts in the discussion topics. Sessions are focused on a variety of challenges facing students today, including internet safety, drug prevention, mental health, as well as discipline and guidance. There will also be sessions focused on academic support. In-person programs will be held at school campuses across the district.

“I’ve reached out to principals, counselors and social workers in the district on what topics would be great to provide based upon their school populations,”  said Shelby Turingan, the Parent University specialist with GPS, “I also have spoken with parents and families at our events.”

Our students, families and community have gone through a lot of change in recent years, and that’s why GPS felt it was important to relaunch Parent University. Research also shows that family engagement is one of the most powerful predictors of a child’s success in school and life.

Two events from Parent University have already been held this year. Three more are already on the calendar. As the school year continues, Turingan says expect to see a wide range of topics and presentation styles, including workshops, series and panel discussions. Parent University events are open to GPS families as well as members of the community.
