The feature on alumni giving ("Calling the old boys' network, February ) highlighted graduate Paul Ramsay, who "initially pledged $1,000 (?535,000) [sic], but after numerous telephone conversations with Nick Blinko eventually agreed to donate ?1 million".

Either the pound and the dollar are even more out of kilter than I thought, or Blinko has a devastatingly persuasive telephone manner.

There could be a job waiting for him at a call centre in Bangalore.
