I am dismayed by Roger Watson's flippant generalisations about nurse educators (Letters, THES , October 24).

As a professor of nursing, he should be celebrating the fact that nursing is in the realm of higher education. Hopefully, this will lead to more nursing research.

Many diploma students take additional studies to complete their degree and this benefits students, the profession and the National Health Service.
