The South African Institute ("Security fury at Wits after clashes over Peres visit", THES , September 13) has a reputation as a forum for reasoned discussion and the airing of opposed views.

It is a pity that the talk by Israeli foreign minister Shimon Peres was open only to Israeli supporters, but not to those who support the Palestinian cause. This would surely have provided a much more informative evening.
