For a Labour minister Bill Rammell seems to have rather a poor grasp of the traditions of the Labour movement ("'Stand up for free speech' - Rammell", November 30). He complains about attempts to give no platform to Nick Griffin and David Irving at the Oxford Union. Why? They have a right to their views, certainly, but that right does not include parading them around in a provocative manner any more than there is a right to make hoax bomb calls. Indeed, another part of democracy Rammell is silent on is the right to robustly challenge those who would, like Griffin and Irving, get rid of democracy if they could.
