I trust that it was entirely accidental that the review of Locus of Authority: The Evolution of Faculty Roles in the Governance of Higher Education (Books, 26 February) was followed by the review of The Devil Wins, a learned treatise on the “vagaries of lying and self-deception”. Only the Devil himself could insinuate a connection between such disparate features of university life.
