I am baffled by Tom Franklin's suggestion (Letters, August 11) that "academic freedom must relate to those areas in which the academic is qualified". I am a chartered psychologist but I have published a book about Sherlock Holmes. Should I withdraw it as I have no qualification in Holmes studies?
