Why is Oxford professor Peter Atkins so timid in proposing that the Government should "invest most of its funds in Oxbridge" (Opinion, May 25)?

Surely, the optimal scenario is for there to be only one research university in the UK?

Since Cambridge tops most university rankings, I expect Atkins to hand over his research money to that other place any day now.
