As outlined in the article "Three wishes: NUS urges trio of loans to help poor postgraduates" (News, 22 November), a real crisis in master's programmes is approaching. As well as the issues over access and debt, many of the more enterprising students will take a master's degree in Europe where there are quality programmes with much lower fees and much provision is in English. I believe that master's students are likely to be more mobile than undergraduates and certainly the best ones will be more adventurous. The UK may then lose them for ever.
