To read that working in a fast-food restaurant will be "valuable experience" for a student made me wonder if this was a news item left over from April 1.

My experience of factory work was valuable only because I was paid and because I redoubled my efforts at university to avoid a lifetime in such places.

We should be encouraging able young people to aspire to demanding employment where they can be as fulfilled as possible.
