Football fans should be encouraged to sing along to classical music during matches to cheer their team on, according to researchers from Sunderland University.

A study of more than 1,000 Sunderland football supporters reveals that 15 per cent of fans would like the pre-match entertainment to include excerpts from the classics. Prokofiev's Dance of the Knights and Bizet's Carmen are already used to boost the atmosphere.
