Sainsbury among Labour's big donors
Science minister Lord Sainsbury is one of two ?2 million benefactors the Labour Party has been forced to name. The other is Christopher Ondaatje, a member of the board of trustees of the Royal Geographical Society, who made his fortune in publishing and finance.

Graduate teacher training&nbsp;applications plummet
Teacher training applications from graduates have fallen drastically. Data from the Graduate Teacher Registry show a fall of 2,289 —16.1 per cent — compared with this time last year.&nbsp;The Department for Education and Employment said it is too early to predict&nbsp;this year’s total applications.

Overweight children on the rise
The number of overweight schoolchildren has risen by about 4 per cent since the mid-1980s.&nbsp;Researchers from the&nbsp;public health sciences department at King’s College, London, have found that by 1994, 9 per cent of English and 10 per cent&nbsp;of Scottish boys were overweight.&nbsp;For girls the figures were 13.5 per cent in England&nbsp;and 15.8 per cent in Scotland.
