Science and engineering organisations have produced a charter of ten areas the next government will need to address.
The charter was launched at a meeting of MPs from all parties. It calls for policies to promote skills, attract and retain top scientists and engineers, inform the public on science and engineering issues and create a climate that fosters innovation and technology transfer.
The charter also says that more rewards are needed in teaching and that the science and engineering community will provide the best possible advice required by government.
Supporters include Save British Science, the Royal Society and the Institute of Food Science and Technology.
