Researchers at King's College London, the Royal Free Hospital and City University believe they can use telemedicine to save thousands of pounds on liver transplants. When a donor organ becomes available a mobile videoconferencing unit will be sent so that doctors at the transplant centre can view the organ and assess its suitability. A major research goal is to find out whether the system can reproduce colour faithfully on screen, since colour is an important indicator of a liver's health.
