Kennet and Avon Canal builders use an Archimedean screw at Hungerford to help repair a wooden culvert. This picture is one of hundreds to be archived online by the Waters Trust at a cost of ?650,000. The Heritage Lottery Fund has contributed ?400,000. The project is to be completed in 2004, when records from 15 archives dispersed throughout the UK will be available free from one website.
