Three quarters of vice-chancellors are in favour of retaining the 2008 research assessment exercise, a survey by Universities UK has found. Last week, a survey by The Times Higher found that just under two thirds of vice-chancellors believe the RAE should go ahead. UUK will inform the Department for Education and Skills of its results, based on about 90 responses. A working group, chaired by David Eastwood, chief executive designate of the Higher Education Funding Council for England, and Sir Alan Wilson, director-general for higher education at the DfES, is considering the future of the RAE.
