The introduction of vedic astrology in India ("'Medieval' minister wants Indian students to be taught vedic astrology", THES , May 4) comes as no surprise to those who have watched the ruling BJP steadily chip away at academic objectivity and freedom. Now the rational basis of science is being undermined by esoteric obscurity. All academics should be alarmed at this determined erosion of intellectual liberty.
