Triumph over adversity

Stephen Heppell's article (Opinion, December 8) drew telling analogies between the current situation of universities and that of the 1960s and 1970s British motorcycle industry: lack of vision, lack of investment, outdated equipment and so forth.

Indeed: BSA, Norton, AJS, Ariel - where are they now? However, the revitalised Triumph company is alive and well, selling more machines a year than it ever did in the 1960s.

Perhaps there's hope for us yet.

On the other hand, Royal Enfields are now made only in India - and exported back to us...
