?16.5m stem-cell centre

Cambridge University has won a ?1.5 million grant to establish a centre of excellence in stem-cell research. The ?16.5 million centre, which will be directed by US scientist Roger Pederson, will develop stem-cell treatments for diabetes and diseases of the brain, including Parkinson's disease and multiple sclerosis. The ?1.5 million grant came from the Medical Research Council. The rest is from the university and a private endowment.
