The Arts and Humanities Research Board has announced a shortlist of 26 applications for its new scheme of research centres. It will fund new or existing centres to undertake strategically important research across all areas of the arts and humanities.

The shortlist includes bids to set up a Centre for the Study of the Renaissance at Warwick University; a Humanities Research Institute at Manchester University; a Centre for Colonial and Post-Colonial Studies at Nottingham Trent University and an Archaeology Research Centre at Exeter University.

The scheme attracted 145 applications. The board will provide money to set up and run the winning centres, which will have access to funds for five years up to a maximum of Pounds 875,000. The winners will be announced later this month.
