A beeline for food

A bee's favourite colour can help influence how much food it gets from the flowers in its environment, according to new research from Queen Mary, University of London. Nigel Raine and Lars Chittka, from Queen Mary's School of Biological and Chemical Sciences, studied nine bumblebee (Bombus terrestris) colonies from southern Germany. They found that the colonies that favoured purple blooms were more successful foragers.
