Adult learning vital for Scotland, says MP

Further education colleges must do more for adult learners, Henry McLeish, Scotland's minister for enterprise and lifelong learning, has warned.

Speaking at the annual seminar of Community Education Managers Scotland, Mr McLeish said adult learning would play a major role in developing Scotland's knowledge economy and improving social inclusion, allowing people to acquire the basic literacy, numeracy and computer skills they failed to get at school.

"Adult education will play a major role in overcoming the digital divide that exists between the generations," he said.
