Antarctic man to head British Council

David Drewry, deputy chief executive of the Natural Environment Research Council, has been appointed director of the British Council. Dr Drewry, 49, will take up his post next year, succeeding Sir John Hanson. A visiting professor at Queen Mary and Westfield College, Dr Drewry is a former director of the British Antarctic Survey.
