Union leaders this week called on academics to boycott Birmingham University's ceremony to install its new chancellor, Sir Dominic Cadbury. The Association of University Teachers is protesting against Birmingham's redundancy committee, set up a year ago. Birmingham AUT president William Edmondson said: "As long as the committee remains in place, nobody's job is safe."
