Blair confirms David King appointment

Tony Blair, the prime minister, has confirmed that Cambridge University chemist David King will succeed Sir Robert May as the government chief scientific adviser.

South African-born Professor King is currently master of Downing College, Cambridge, and head of the university chemistry department. His work in catalysis has won him worldwide acclaim as well as attracting lucrative industrial sponsorship for his department.
