Universities are celebrating successes at this year's Chelsea Flower Show.

A team of scientists from Reading University's School of Biological Sciences won gold at the show by showing how plants can be "frozen" in time. They will now work with the National Chrysanthemum Society to develop affordable cryopreservation procedures that can be used to halt the rapid loss of old chrysanthemum varieties.

Meanwhile, New Hall, Cambridge, won a Bronze Flora medal at the show for its Transit of Venus garden. It was the first time a Cambridge college had created a garden in the show's 155-year history.
