Cricklade College chief sacked

Cricklade College has sacked its principal Richard Evans for "bringing the college into disrepute". But the troubled Hampshire college stands by its decision to dismiss the whistleblower who brought Mr Evans's activities to public attention.

Mr Evans, who spent 16 months suspended on full pay during an investigation, was finally dismissed without a severance package last week. Although the college said his "integrity and honesty" had not been questioned, he was found to have breached financial regulations relating to a contract with an IT firm and had "fundamentally damaged" the trust a corporation needs to have in its principal. Meanwhile, lecturers' union Natfhe wants an inquiry into the sacking of its senior negotiator, Andrew Murray, who the union believes has been victimised.
