After differences between the governments of Mauritania and Senegal over the construction of a dam on a river running through the two countries, Senegalese students studying at the University of Nouakchott, capital of Mauritania, and Mauritanian students at the University of Cheikh Anta Diop, in Dakar, have been repatriated to avoid becoming victims of harassment. In the 1990s, students in both countries were killed during a similar row.
