Draft law on organ use

The government has published the Human Tissue Bill to regulate the retention and use of human tissue and organs in medical research, in the wake of the Alder Hey and Bristol inquiries.

The proposed legislation will insist on researchers' gaining consent from relatives or patients before material can be taken from cadavers.

It will also allow national museums to repatriate human remains in response to claims from the descendants of indigenous people.
