Dundee University this week confirmed survival plans to secure an additional ?6.85 million income over the next three years, to return to financial surplus, through a series of job cuts and new income streams.

Its governing body, University Court, accepted the recommendations of a sustainability review by 11 votes to five.

The university said that it would improve income chiefly through an additional 200 taught postgraduate places over the three years and would secure ?4.7 million through "savings across the university over the next four years". It stated that it would avoid compulsory redundancies where possible.
