Economists opt for the City

Low pay is to blame for students turning their backs on postgraduate research and lecturing in economics and instead heading for lucrative careers in the City, a study has found. It found that the earnings of academic economists have fallen behind private sector companies by 20-30 per cent over the last ten years.
