Second-year students at Heriot-Watt University's School of Textiles and Design have designed a range of clothing to help support a home and school for orphaned children in India. The cotton clothes are printed with natural dyes using hand-block techniques in cottage industries in Andhra Pradesh in southeast India. The project is run in partnership with the charity Scottish Love in Action. Making the clothes will give training and work to local widows and young people from the home. Jayne Smith, the course director, said: 'I am very impressed with the results, but the real test will come when we show the range to buyers who will place an order only if convinced that customers will want to buy the clothes.'
