Ministers meeting in Brussels to decide on future programmes for the European Space Agency have agreed a science budget for the next four years that should send a British experiment to look for life on Mars. The e1.46 billion (Pounds 965 million) budget, which needs final approval next week, allows ESA to proceed with Mars Express and the Planck astronomy mission. Also approved was a space-based environmental research programme.
