Gender disparity

Male academics continue to dominate senior roles, figures for 2005-06 from the Higher Education Statistics Agency show. As The Times Higher reported three weeks ago, women comprise just 16.5 per cent of professors compared with 15.8 per cent the preceding year. According to Hesa, women accounted for 30.8 per cent of senior lecturers and about 42 per cent of lecturers and researchers. Overall, the proportion of full-time female academic staff rose from 36.1 per cent in 2004-05 to 36.6 per cent.
