Boys from state schools are less interested in going to university than girls at the same schools, according to a report from the Sutton Trust charity.

The report, which is based on a survey of 2,400 11 to 16-year-olds in 100 state schools, found that 71 per cent of young people believed they would go to university, but this represented 76 per cent of girls and 67 per cent of boys.
