Governors at Halton College are seeking legal advice regarding the recovery of cash from former principal Martin Jenkins and his deputy, Jenny Dolphin.

Mr Jenkins, the highest-paid college principal, on a salary of Pounds 100,000, and Ms Dolphin, on Pounds 80,000, were suspended on full pay at a cost of Pounds 200,000 for more than ten months pending investigations by the National Audit Office and the Further Education Funding Council. Following charges of gross mismanagement by governors, both resigned on the grounds of ill health last week before the disciplinary case of gross misconduct could be brought. In addition to the Pounds 6.4 million that the pair were found to have falsely claimed for funding, other costs associated with the investigations into their mismanagement have already reached almost Pounds 500,000.
