Grammar's strong presence belies myths

Complaints by bosses that staff cannot write fuel the myth that grammar is not being taught, linguists were told at a London meeting.

Mike Kelly, director of the subject centre for languages, linguistics and area studies, part of the Learning and Teaching Support Network, said grammar was high on the academic agenda after last year's Nuffield languages report and the government's literacy strategy.
