Troubled Halton College, already facing a claw-back of funds after an investigation into the misuse of public money by the Further Education Funding Council, has just paid Pounds 30,000 in compensation to a lecturer for sexual discrimination and harassment.

Val Goulden, who was accused by a student of being "anti-male", has also received a written apology from the Cheshire-based college.
