Institutions must consider the possible impact of joining the European Monetary Union, the Higher Education Funding Council for England warned this week. If the UK joins EMU, prices will become directly comparable across Europe. "Price transparency creates both an opportunity and a threat for UK institutions," states a guide to the implications of the euro prepared for HEFCE by PriceWaterhouseCoopers. "It will make it easier for students and research sponsors to shop around. Alternatively, it could reveal that an institution's services offer good value for money."
