(Photograph) - Ion mountain: spectacularly rendered by Glasgow printmaker Murray Robertson, this 3D computer plot of ionisation energies is part of Visual Elements, an art-science collaboration backed by the Royal Society of Chemistry and Glasgow City Council. Contributors include John Emsley, science writer in residence at the University of Cambridge, and Ann Prescott, senior lecturer at the University of Abertay Dundee. Each of the 109 known elements has its own web page at and a total of 16 fly-through landscapes show how properties vary across the periodic table.
