Court frees academic jailed for terrorism
United States attorney general Janet Reno has freed Mazen Al-Najjar, who was jailed&nbsp;as a suspected terrorist in May 1997. Professor Al-Najjar was affiliated to a think-tank linked to the University of South Florida and worked with Ramadan Abdullah Shallah, who left Tampa in 1995 to become head of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad.

Zambia&nbsp;encourages study of science
Zambia is to set up a private university to increase the number of graduates in engineering and applied sciences. The announcement was made by science minister Abel Chambeshi.
