Ukrainian president sparks protests
Ukrainian students are camping in a public garden opposite Kiev's national university to try to prevent President Leonid Kuchma, whom some have implicated in the murder of a whistleblowing journalist, from laying flowers at the statue of Taras Shevchenko, Ukraine's national poet and hero, on Friday. They are furious that Taras Shevchenko National University has awarded the president an honorary degree.

Students volunteer for public HIV tests
The entire students' representative council at South Africa's University of Wi****ersrand will take public HIV tests on Thursday. The 15 students aim to encourage others to do the same, the university said.
