Man defamed by university wins $1m
A former student who claimed that Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington State, &nbsp;had spoiled his hope of a teaching career by telling state officials that he had an allegation of sexual assault on his record has been awarded $1.15 million in damages by the Washington State Supreme Court. The court held that&nbsp;his civil rights had been violated and that he had been defamed when the university refused to issue a certificate of good behaviour. No charge was pressed by the alleged victim, who made a deposition denying that she had been assaulted.

Nigeria orders v-cs to open campuses
The Nigerian government is reported to have ordered vice-chancellors to reopen universities on June 11, effectively ending a strike by academics over implementation of a pay agreement.
