Haifa appoints German non-Jew chairman
A German non-Jew has been appointed Haifa University's chairman of governors despite opposition from some members of the senate. Manfred Lanstein is president of the Israel-Germany Friendship Society and a former German finance minister.

Zimbabwe considers 2,500 per cent rise in fees
The Zimbabwean government is considering a 2,500 per cent increase in fees for students studying at state universities from August, according to the Zimbabwe Standard . Vice-chancellors from state universities have recommended that fees rise to up to ZM$70,000 (?900) a year.

Sentences&nbsp;reduced in student death case
Two former University of Florida students who faced 15 years in prison&nbsp;over the death of a student who took the painkiller OxyContin have had their sentences reduced to approximately three months and one month respectively for manslaughter and delivery of a controlled drug. A judge ordered them to keep a&nbsp;photograph of victim Matthew Kaminer by their beds for 15 years.
