AoC cheered by Woodhead's exit

College leaders last night welcomed the departure of Ofsted chief inspector Chris Woodhead. The Association of Colleges believes a new leader will address its concerns about Ofsted’s proscriptive and unaccountable elements. The inspectorate takes over&nbsp; college inspections next year.

All SQA members quit pre-report

All 24 members of the Scottish Qualifications Authority today offered to resign at the prompting of Scotland’s new education minister, Jack McConnell. The minister is expected to accept most resignations. The move comes hours before the publication of a report on the SQA’s examinations fiasco, which left thousands of candidates with inaccurate, incomplete or missing results.

MP unveils Tory-ousting tactics

Labour MP Denis MacShane used a speech at York University Labour Club today to set out his strategy for the general election. He said tactical voting by Labour and Liberal Democrat supporters could defeat a swath of sitting Tories and prevent “hard right” Hague candidates being elected.
