GM meat on the menu
Food from genetically modified animals could be on sale within&nbsp;ten years,&nbsp;Ian McConnell of Cambridge University said today. Professor McConnell was speaking as a report from the Royal Society showed that more experiments using GM animals are likely to be conducted as genetics research races ahead.

Recruitment of foreign nurses attacked
The&nbsp;recruitment of thousands of foreign nurses came under fire at the Royal College of Nursing’s conference in Harrogate this morning. The government’s NHS Plan, published last July, promised to provide&nbsp;20,000 more nurses by 2004. Applications from overseas nurses to register in the&nbsp;United Kingdom have doubled in the last year.

Art reaches out across England
A ?4 million art initiative aimed at breaking down social and class barriers reached more than half of England’s population in the past year, it was revealed today. Twenty-five million people have had contact with 1,700 artists nationwide as part of the National Lottery-funded Year of the Artist.
