Blair defends tuition fees
Tony Blair today defended his government¡¯s decision to introduce tuition fees and abolish means-tested maintenance grants. Speaking on Radio 4¡¯s Election Call he said that it was fair because graduates earn more than non-graduates.

Natfhe accepts pay deal
Members of lecturers' union Natfhe have accepted a 4.3 per cent pay offer and a package of reform of pay-negotiating machinery. The deal is dependent on the agreement of the eight higher education unions.

BSE cross-contamination examined
The Food Standards Agency is to examine the risk of BSE cross-contamination in abattoirs that slaughter animals aged over 30 months for human consumption. The move comes after a working group from the Royal Society and the Academy of Medical Sciences said urgent action was needed.
