When a much-loved penguin statue was stolen from the London School of Economics earlier this year, flowers, poems, tins of sardines and Penguin chocolate biscuits were left in tribute at the site. News of the theft spread as far afield as Canada, home of Louis Odette, the philanthropist and LSE alumnus who donated the artwork. The original 60lb landmark has never been recovered, but a new penguin statue was unveiled on the same spot last week. Adrian Hall, the school secretary, said: "LSE wasn't the same without the penguin, so we're delighted with its replacement."
