Most oppose higher tuition fees

* The vast majority of people would oppose plans to increase the proportion of tuition fee paid by undergraduates, says a NOP poll.

The survey showed that seven out of ten people backed continued state funding. Just 4 per cent thought students or their parents should foot the whole tuition bill. Twenty-seven per cent of respondents thought university education should be free to all who want it; and 21 per cent thought graduates should repay debts when earning. The poll showed a class difference in attitudes towards parental contributions.
